Valentine's Day Table Setting & a Recipe

I know some people may think it's a tad early for a Valentine's Day post but oh well!

We had friends over for dinner on Saturday night and I opted for simple yet pretty place settings.

I bought the cookies from Longo's. They aren't very good but they're cute.

The wine glass shown here were apart of the swag bag from Blog Podium. I think I've used them more as vases then I have to drink out of.

Unfortunately we've broken almost all of our wine glasses so I had to use stemless glasses. I really need to buy some more!

My menu on Saturday had a bit for everyone. One of things we made for the first time was flank steak. I don't know a lot of people who have made this but I found a great and simple recipe on Canadian Living.

Here is the recipe from Canadian Living:

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp grated lemon rind - Note: I just grated the rind of a whole lemon
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic , minced
  • 1 tbsp minced fresh oregano
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 lb beef flank marinating steak
Note: I didn't really go by those measurements, I eyeballed it based on the piece of meat I had. It was rather large so I increased my portions.

Preparation

In shallow glass dish, whisk together lemon rind and juice, oil, garlic, oregano, salt and pepper; add steak, turning and patting to coat. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes or for up to 4 hours.

Place steak on greased grill over medium-high heat; close lid and grill until medium-rare, about 6 minutes per side. (Or broil for about 4 minutes per side.)

Transfer steak to cutting board and tent with foil; let stand for 5 minutes before carving thinly across the grain.

Note: It was delicious and super easy to make. The piece of meat I bought was large and took about 22 minutes to BBQ to medium-rare. The mister told me yesterday that he added a bit of soya sauce before he bbq'd the meat.

Also, we didn't tent with meat after it came off the bbq, we just cut it and served it.

Now tell me, do you like Valentine's Day themed tables and two, do you have a good flank steak recipe to share?

Quick & Easy Centerpieces

I don't know about you but I'm always trying to find ways to jazz up our table. Whether it's just to keep it looking nice during the week or for a weekend dinner with friends I love a well dressed table.

Keeping the table dressed for the season is a big thing for me. Seashells in the summer, gorgeous tulips in the spring, gourds and small pumpkins in the fall and frosted pinecones in the winter.

I love this idea, the limes in the vase. I've done it before with lemons. It has such a fresh feel to it.

Candels and / or flowers that extend the length of the table are gorgeous too. I also love place cards. Not neccessary for a small dinner party of 4 but can be fun for a party over 6.

How amazing are these flowers? I love how vibrant and warm they are. And how amazing is the notepad place card. This would be perfect for a bridal or baby shower.

All of the images are from HGTV.

Now tell me, does your heart melt when you see a gorgeous table like mine? Do you have a go to centerpiece theme?

Place Cards

Are you a place card type of person when hosting a dinner party? Yesterday I showed you my mini pumpkin place cards and thought I would show you a few more I stumbled upon.

Who wouldn't love a cupcake and peony place card? These would be perfect for a baby or bridal shower.

How amazing would these be at a rustic outdoor wedding?!

Thanksgiving Recap

I hope all you Canadians had a fabulous long weekend. I could totally use another day off but I guess I can't be greedy.

For our family dinner at my parents house yesterday, I was in charge of the table decor. I'm not super crafty in the DIY sense but love a nicely set table.

I headed out to Loblaw and bought 25 mini white pumpkins for the 25 people, a bunch of bouquets of flowers, corn and other decor items. Here are a few pictures of the finished product.

We're not usually a family who has assigned seating but I really wanted to use the white pumpkins as place card holders. They would have been cuter if I had nicer paper but what can ya do!

How was your Thanksgiving dinner? Full for a week?

Spring Tablescape Ideas

I hope Tuesday is treating you well! Can you believe it's the second last day of February? Where is this year going?

Well being that it is almost SPRING I thought I'd highlight some lovely spring tablescape ideas. Let me know which is your favourite and why.

VIA Crush Cul De Sac

I adore the bright colours and the close pin to keep the menu card in place. You could also use the close pin for the seating card if you have arranged seating!

VIA Lokal 54

I love how crisp and minimal this one is.

VIA Traditional Home

I think lime green and pink go wonderfully together. A couple floral arrangements with cut up limes in the vase would look amazing on this table.

VIA Style Me Pretty

I fell in love with one look at these charger plates! I had similar ones at my wedding.

Valentine's Day Tablescape Ideas

Are you having a Valentine's Day party this week and you aren't sure how to make it festive and special? I've come across these and think they'd be perfect for a sweet, romantic and fun Valentine's party!

VIA Hostess With The Mostess

VIA Pizzazzerie

1. You could make a fruit rum punch or maybe try making a big batch of cosmopolitan. Just make sure you don't make it too strong - a super strong punch is never good!

2. If you're not a gourmet pastry chef like me, I'd suggest stopping off at your local bakery for some delicious treats. After being in Paris for 5 days over Christmas I strongly suggest picking up some macaroons!

3. Candy in my opinion makes everything better. Stop by your local bulk barn or favourite candy store and stock up.

4. If you're short on fabulous serving dishes like these try your local dollar store or Crate and Barrel.

Does this seem like something you could re-create? I think it's worth a shot if you ask me!

100th Post!

Sorry for being MIA this week. I had one of those weeks that just kicks you to the curb but I'm back and feeling better than ever!

First off, this is my 100th post, how exciting! As I sit here drinking a neocitron so I can tackle my busy weekend I'm pondering what my next 100 posts will be about....

Secondly, I have a very fun weekend planned as I hope all of you do too. Tonight Michael and I are off to Fishbone Bistro in Stouffville for a delicious dinner and I can't wait.

Being that Canadian Thanksgiving is this weekend I thought I'd share some great fall/Thanksgiving decor ideas. I'm a big fan of decorating for the season and being that fall is my favourite season I think these are just wonderful. All of the ideas came from Pinterest.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Enjoy the Party,

Nicole :)

Easter Table Settings

To keep with my theme from yesterday and gorgeous table decor I thought I'd suggest some great Easter table settings. Being that the weather isn't looking too hot this weekend we'll need to find other ways to warm things up.
I was just browsing around the HGTV DIY Decor section and found these fabulous Easter table settings that I think are to die for. Michael and I are super excited to start hosting family events at our new house and all of these pictures make me even more excited and anxious!
